Safety is no longer a luxury in the automotive world; it is a necessity. And Mahindra has taken this commitment to heart, consistently setting benchmarks in vehicle safety. The latest crash test results from the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP) have further cemented Mahindra’s reputation as a leader in this arena. With the XUV300, Thar ROXX, and XUV400 all securing coveted five-star safety ratings, Mahindra is proving that safety is integral to its DNA.

Let’s take a look at what makes these achievements so remarkable and why they matter to drivers everywhere.

The Safest Car In Africa

The journey begins with the Mahindra XUV300, a compact SUV that has redefined safety standards. Proudly hailed as the “Safest Car in Africa,” the XUV300 achieved top scores in the Global NCAP crash tests. This accolade isn’t just a feather in Mahindra’s cap; it’s a testament to the brand’s dedication to engineering excellence. Packed with features like six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and ISOFIX child seat anchors, the XUV300 sets a gold standard for safety in its segment.

Now, with Bharat NCAP’s latest results, the XUV300 continues its winning streak. Scoring 29.36 points out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 43 out of 49 for child occupant protection, this SUV reaffirms Mahindra’s unwavering commitment to keeping families safe on the road.

Breaking Records With The Thar ROXX

The Mahindra Thar ROXX (not currently available in South Africa) has made history by becoming the first body-on-frame SUV to achieve a five-star Bharat NCAP rating. This rugged SUV, built to conquer both urban jungles and off-road trails, has shattered stereotypes about body-on-frame vehicles being less safe.

The Thar ROXX excelled in testing, scoring an impressive 31.09 points for adult occupant protection and 45 points for child safety. Features like six airbags, ESC, a Brake Locking Differential (BLD), and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as Lane Departure Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking have made the Thar ROXX a trailblazer in its category.

Leading The Charge In Electric Safety

Mahindra’s innovation isn’t limited to traditional vehicles. The XUV400, the brand’s first electric SUV, has also joined the five-star club. This achievement is a significant milestone, as it showcases Mahindra’s ability to deliver safety without compromising the unique requirements of electric vehicles.

In Bharat NCAP’s tests, the XUV400 earned 30.38 points in adult occupant protection and 43 points in child safety. Its safety arsenal includes six airbags, ISOFIX anchors, and advanced braking systems. Additionally, features like adaptive reverse cameras and all-around disc brakes ensure comprehensive safety for both drivers and passengers.

Mahindra South Africa has expressed interest in introducing this electric SUV to the local market and is conducting feasibility studies to assess its viability.

What This Means For Mahindra Manufacturing

These consecutive five-star safety ratings are more than just accolades; they reflect Mahindra’s dedication to meticulous engineering and cutting-edge innovation. Each vehicle’s safety features are the result of rigorous research, extensive testing, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Mahindra’s approach to safety begins with the basics: high-strength steel frames, strategically designed crumple zones, and advanced restraint systems. It then adds layers of technology, from ESC and ADAS to state-of-the-art airbag systems, creating vehicles that excel in real-world scenarios and controlled tests alike.

What’s more, the focus on safety doesn’t stop with passengers. Features like pedestrian protection and tyre pressure monitoring ensure that every road user benefits from their commitment to safer roads.

In South Africa, where road safety is a pressing concern, Mahindra’s advancements are a beacon of hope. Vehicles like the XUV300 offer peace of mind to drivers and passengers, ideal for families and adventurers alike. Whether navigating bustling city streets or venturing off the beaten path, South African drivers can trust that Mahindra’s vehicles are built with their safety in mind.

Looking Ahead To A Very Bright Future

Mahindra SUVs

Mahindra SUVs adventure on a long distance trek

For more than 70 years the legendary vehicle brand that is the Mahindra has been synonymous with legendary adventures across the globe. Recently, the Mahindra fleet — including the Scorpio-N, XUV700, and Thar, embarked on an unforgettable journey from Manali to Leh. This was a test of endurance, skill, and the raw capability of Mahindra’s finest SUVs as they tackled one of the most challenging routes in the world.

Manali to Leh is a drive that many dream of, with its mix of scenic beauty and demanding terrain. Starting in Manali, a popular gateway to the Himalayas, the route climbs through some of India’s highest mountain passes. The convoy of 14 Mahindras began its journey, snaking through the winding roads of Himachal Pradesh, heading towards Shinku La. This no-ordinary route featured both popular landmarks and hidden gems, offering a unique blend of the Himalayas’ awe-inspiring beauty, from pristine lakes and majestic glaciers to untouched valleys.

Tips For Planning Your Long Distance Adventure:

South Africa is just as adventurous, offering breathtaking landscapes and diverse experiences perfect for long-distance journeys. The ideal time to schedule a trip is between December and March, during the summer months when the weather is favourable and the mountain passes are clear. Make sure to arrange permits, book accommodations, and stock up on supplies in advance to ensure a smooth and hassle-free adventure.

Conquering The Steep And Slippery Terrain

The first leg of the journey put the Mahindra SUVs to the test with steep, slippery hairpin turns that challenged even the most experienced drivers. However, the ScorpioN and Thar, equipped with their rugged ladder frames and 4×4 capabilities, easily handled the rough terrain. The XUV700, despite being a monocoque SUV, kept pace with its all-wheel-drive system, demonstrating a remarkable balance between off-road toughness and on-road comfort.

Crossing Pensi La at 14,400 feet was a highlight, with the Mahindra SUVs navigating their way through the challenging terrain to reach this secluded pass. The drive offered stunning views of the Drang-Drung glacier, one of the largest in Ladakh. Here, the freshly laid tarmac allowed the Mahindras to showcase their versatility, transforming from rugged off-roaders to smooth cruisers as they effortlessly navigated the twisty roads.

The journey then led to Zanskar Valley, an area known for its towering peaks and unforgiving terrain. The Scorpio N and Thar proved their mettle, tackling the rough conditions with confidence, while the XUV700 continued to impress with its adaptability and ruggedness. This part of Ladakh is particularly famous for its remoteness and the sense of isolation it offers, making it a true test for both man and machine.

Exploring Nubra Valley And Pangong Tso

Nubra Valley, another key destination, required the convoy to navigate through Khardung La, one of the highest motorable passes in the world. Despite the narrow roads and traffic congestion, the Mahindra SUVs handled the conditions with ease. An alternative route via Wari La offered an equally scenic and less crowded path, allowing the convoy to experience the raw beauty of Ladakh.

Pangong Tso, the world’s highest saltwater lake, was the next major stop. The crystal-clear waters and dramatic landscape provided a serene backdrop before the final challenge: Umling La, the world’s highest motorable road at 19,024 feet. Known for its steep hairpins and lack of oxygen, this route tested the vehicles to their limits. However, the Mahindras proved their capability, overcoming the devilishly tough conditions with ease.

The journey concluded with a descent into Hanle, home to one of the world’s highest astronomical observatories, and Demchok, a remote village near the China border. The smooth roads and well-marked tarmac provided a welcome contrast to the rugged terrain encountered earlier.

Your Perfect Adventure Companion

The Manali to Leh adventure reaffirmed the exceptional performance and reliability of Mahindra SUVs. Whether facing challenging off-road conditions or cruising on smooth tarmac, these vehicles demonstrated their ability to handle some of the world’s most demanding environments with ease, making them the perfect companions for any adventure.

At Group1 Mahindra, we share the same passion for Mahindra’s exceptional lineup. We’re dedicated to bringing these rugged, reliable vehicles closer to you, so you can experience their unparalleled performance and spirit of adventure firsthand. Mahindra Thar SUV Digitised To Enter NFT Space

Mahindra Thar

Mahindra Thar digitized as an NFT for a good cause

Mahindra & Mahindra recently unveiled their foray into the world of non-fungible tokens, following hot on the heels of MG Motors India, and bringing to the table NFTs based on their much-loved Thar SUV.

First things first – what on earth is an NFT?

An NFT, or non-fungible token, is a digital asset that represents things like art, music, gaming items and, now, the Mahindra Thar SUV. NFTs are sold online and mostly purchased by means of Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.

The appeal of an NFT is that it comes in very limited runs and has unique identifying codes that create a form of online scarcity. So, if you have one, you gain digital bragging rights and can prove ownership at the hand of built-in authentication.

FUN FACT! The first-ever NFT was created by a talented digital artist, Kevin McCoy, in May of 2014. It was essentially a pixelated image of a moving octagon. He named it Quantum and sold it online as what is commonly believed to be the first NFT ever. Today, Quantum is worth almost $7 000 000!

According to Veejay Nakra, the CEO of the automotive division at Mahindra & Mahindra, the decision to roll out the NFTs is another step to put them out front in terms of digital marketing. The automaker has always been at the forefront of tech transformation, often adopting new technologies far quicker than their competitors.

The first-ever Mahindra trench of tokens included four NFTs, which went on auction late in March. The automaker chose to donate all of the proceeds from the auction to Project Nanhi Kali.

Founded in 1996 as a part of the K.C. Mahindra Education Trust by Anand Mahindra with the aim of educating underprivileged girls in India, this project is one of the largest programmes in all of India. Their main aim is to help girls in their country to conclude 10 years of schooling by providing school supplies and academic support.

What a time to be alive! The good news is that whether you are into NFTs or not, a Mahindra remains a sound investment. Find out more about the current Mahindra vehicles we have in stock by getting in touch with our team at Group1 Mahindra. Our expert team of auto professionals at our Midrand and Kuilsrivier branches are waiting in the wings to get you behind the wheel of the perfect vehicle.
