Introducing the all-new Nissan Terra that is cementing the automaker’s position in the SUV sector. This durable yet stylishly elegant vehicle is expected to check all the boxes, making it the ideal companion for families eager for adventure.
While the Nissan Terra seven-seater SUV has not yet been launched in South Africa, it is heading our way. The range will feature several trim levels, including the XE, SE, and LE, along with a choice of either a 4×2 or 4×4 drivetrain.
In terms of pricing, the new addition to the already-impressive Nissan SUV lineup will start at R596,900* for the base XE specification with a manual gearbox, and go up to R853,900* for the range-topping automatic LE.
Every new Nissan Terra model comes standard with a 6-year/150,000km warranty and a 6-year/90,000km service plan.
Under the bonnet of the new Nissan Terra range in South Africa is a 2.5-litre, turbo-diesel engine delivering 140kW and 450Nm of torque. It is paired to a choice of either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission.
While the Nissan Terra XE and the Terra SE are available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, the top-spec Nissan Terra LE is only available with a 4×4 drivetrain. The combined consumption is between 8.0-8.3l/100km for the 78-litre fuel tank which is pretty impressive for a car of this size.
Each variant has a maximum braked towing capacity of 2,100kg with a maximum cargo capacity of 635kg to 667kg, model–dependent. The new Nissan Terra SUV is 4,900mm long, 1,865mm wide, and 1,865mm tall with segment-leading 243mm ground clearance to make traversing all types of terrain a breeze.
Although there is limited information on the features in the South African range, here’s what we know about the models launched elsewhere.

You can also fold all the seats flat to reveal the longest flat luggage surface in its class.
Stefan Haasbroek, Marketing Director at Nissan South Africa said: “It was also important to make it as easy as possible for all members of the family to get in and out of the rear seats with a remote fold-down second-row feature.”
For those who cannot live without technology, the Terra has an 8-speaker bose sound system and a 9-inch touch screen. The car can connect to your smartphone and comes with several handy apps, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Wireless charging, USB ports, and even USB-C outlets allow passengers to keep their electronics operating throughout the journey. NissanConnect also includes Bluetooth, navigation, and other features.
In terms of safety, the Nissan Terra has several active safety systems which make it one of the best SUVs for family adventures. Along with airbags and the standard safety features you’d expect from a modern car, the Terra features Nissan’s Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection as a class-exclusive feature.
“These advanced safety features on the all-new Terra along with on and off-road capability, comfort and the latest technology are a perfect match for today’s adventure-seeking SUV families,” Haasbroek concluded.
